Buying a used Xray T4’16
Back in 2019 I bought a 2019 chassis to upgrade my Xray T4’15. Not the highly overpriced original, but the copy from Vigor RC that feels exactly the same when twisting it. And then I changed my mind because everyone went to aluminum chassis and mid pulley configurations, and because I had to get one of these super-duper-fancy Rebellion conversion kits. - I guess therefore we call it a Hobby. And then the pandemic hit and I didn’t race for two years.

After some racing I can honestly say that I am super happy with the Rebellion conversion. There was still a small box with leftover parts, like the Vigor chassis, four upper decks, Vigor’s adjustable lipo mount, their brass center weight for floating electronics installation and other goodies. I considered selling everything separately, but liked the idea of building a second Xray better.

With that in mind I set up a search on Ebay Kleinanzeigen to find a reasonably priced donor car. The alarm went off quite often, like once a week. Some cars are too worn out, but often they are in good shape and well maintained. Most people are selling “a Ready to Race package” with electronics and what not. Probably a way to achieve higher prices and get rid of all the old stuff when rules change.
I set my personal limit to 180€ for a “Runner” - which means the chassis only – and in good condition. I wasn’t interested in electronics which I don’t need, although I could sell them if the offer was good. With used cars you might always experience one or two surprises when rebuilding them. Therefore some extra money for spare parts should also be in the budget.
Interestingly second hand Xrays still sell fast and achieve good prices. It’s not as if the ads were online for several weeks and then reissued. So I waited until an offer popped up where I didn’t need to think twice…

| Found a nice donor car! |
One day a T4’16 popped up. Some scratches on the lower chassis from outdoor use but that didn’t bother me, as long as all aluminum parts and drivetrain parts are in good condition. From the pictures I could tell that it hadn't seen much abuse. As soon as the package appeared on my doorstep I started ripping the whole car apart and began with the rebuild.

This is going to be a nice build. When it’s finished I’m eager to take it to the track in Bamberg again.
